In the author’s opinion Canada lacks a strong, knowledgeable base of citizens to lead the
country into the future even though the country has a very strong system in place – the Canadian
military college 9CMC) system 1 .
In the interests of transparency, the reader should know that the author is both a retired infantry officer and a graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada having spent his first 2 years at Royal Roads Military RRMC. It is the author’s contention that Canadians fall who fully below other countries in the
knowledge of our country and our place in a world of increasingly complex geo/strategic situations and
our readiness to face those difficulties.
As such it is the author’s contention that to address this Delema we need a facelift of our educational system. Fortunately, such a system already exists in Canada that has proven more than adequate since 1992 and having seen the country through multiple wars and conflicts- the CMC system, which should focus on the following and be a voluntary system:
The author should make it clear that he is not advocating for a “Spata -of-the-north”; rather, he is
suggesting that Canada needs a robust, well-educated population, aware of its own history and able to lead Canada in a dangerous, unstable world keenly aware of the needs of its provinces, territories and municipalities. The country deserves well-educated leaders to influence activities internationally with a keen knowledge of what’s required to be a free liberal democracy.
